Habte Yakob, a father of two, Human rights activist and a Journalist who founded Sidama Media Network has passed away.
Born in 1976, Habte left the country in 2003 due to political instability following the social movement demanding regional autonomy in the Sidama region. At his time abroad he became one of the founding members of the Sidama Diaspora Community (SDC). He was a committed member of the association and worked tirelessly in the media as well, according to the SDC. A friend of his told Addis Standard that although he wasn't a journalist by profession, he taught himself the skills and dedicated himself to being a voice to his people. He also worked for Oromia Media Network (OMN) on its Affu Sidama segment.
Habte Yakob was recieving treatment in South Africa where he passed away on January 7, 2021.
