Ethiopia's Walya Antelopes defeated Sudan 5-4 on penalties after both sideds played to 1-1 draw in regular time at Addis Ababa Stadium

Ethiopia's Walya Antelopes defeated Sudan 5-4 on penalties after both sideds played to 1-1 draw in regular time at Addis Ababa Stadium to finish third in 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and walk away with USD10, 000 prize money.

The hosts were defeated 5-3 through a penalty shoot out by Uganda with Sudan joining them after a defeat to Rwanda by the same margin. As opposed to regular scenes of home fans filling the stadium, this match which was played on Saturday saw a small crowd turning in to cheer the teams.

Walya Antelopes started on a high note winning a free-kick earlier on in the second minute which the captain Panom unable to beat the wall. The Sudanese should have taken the lead in the 13th minute when keeper Yidnekachew Kidane parried the ball to the opponent with Atif Eltayib unable to finish off the rebound.

Almost five minutes later, it was the keeper again, who was called into action, this time round by Koko Abdalla, who unleashed a fierce strike which was goal bound. Ethiopia made tactical changes which included playing Panom in a more advanced role but looked out of ideas with their winger Yissak Bereket, the only bright star in the otherwise disappointing hosts.

The first half ended with both teams playing cautiously, with the hosts enjoying possession as their opponents relied on counter attacks.

Both teams made substitutions in the second half, Ibrahim Hassan coming in for Yagoub for Sudan with Ethiopia bringing in Addisu Tesfaye in place of Bayeh. It was Walya Antelopes though who opened the scoring in the 56th minute, as Panom played in Mamo, who controlled the ball outside the eighteen yard box before placing it beyond the keeper's reach.

Ethiopia looked comfortable with the lead until they realised it was not enough in the 83rd minute as Sudan leveled matters courtesy of Yagoub, who finished a good cross floated in by Faris to send the match into extra time.

Sudan scored four out of five penalties courtesy of Al Tayeb, Koko, Yagoub and Ekram with Tayir missing his as the hosts converted their five courtesy of Panom, Girma, Addisu, Mamo and Bereket.
